Eat like a king!...or queen! My wife & I had dinner at the newly opened Mexi King's Grill in Homewood. This is not your typical Mexican or Tex-Mex style restaurant. Mexi King's serves Mexican-American cuisine. From burgers, to wings, to typical Mexican things...there's truly something for everyone.
We ordered the guacamole to go with the chips & salsa. We agreed this was some of the best salsa we'd ever tried. The guacamole was made-to-order. Chunky & super fresh.
I ordered the Camerones a la Diabla featuring jumbo shrimp in a house-made spicy pepper sauce served with pinto beans, lime rice & warm corn tortillas. I was EXTREMELY impressed with this dish! The shrimp were huge, succulent & cooked to perfection. They went so well with the savory SPICY sauce. Lovely smoky ancho pepper flavor. The pinto beans were also phenomenal. Nothing comes from a can here. Everything is made from scratch & that truly reflects in the taste.
My wife had the Famous Fish Tacos featuring crunchy slaw, mango pico de gallo & chipotle sauce in flour tortillas served with refried beans. She said the flavors & textures all went well together. She really enjoyed the crispy seasoned fish.
We had the churros for dessert. Never in my life have I had churros so fresh & delicious! They were warm, soft in the middle with a nice crunch on the outside & lightly dusted with sugar. FANTASTIC! Perfect when dipped in the warm chocolate sauce & homemade whipped cream.
The atmosphere at Mexi King's is relaxed. Great place to chat, have a meal & some margaritas (the margaritas are awesome too!). Excellent prices & large portions. Service was friendly as were the owners, Felix & Germain. They're seasoned restaurant veterans with a passion for their craft. I highly recommend this Homewood gem. A worthy addition to your "must dine" list!
